Pierre Comizzoli is a research veterinarian at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Washington DC. He started his career in French Guyana studying the seasonal reproduction of different mammals. Then, as an epidemiologist, he was in charge of livestock and wild species monitoring programs in the Sahel and Lake Chad regions of Africa. Pierre also works on the implementation of assisted reproductive techniques and genome resource banking to improve the genetic management of rare and endangered species. Since 2005, he has organized and participated in wildlife surveys in Algeria’s Great Ergs.
