Far from what we are led to believe, the Sahara is not just a vast and spectacular pile of sand but a complex mosaic of landscapes that include some of the largest grasslands and highest mountain ranges in Africa. This diversity and its associated vegetation is home to an amazing array of wildlife. As elsewhere on earth, successful conservation not only depends on protection of species but also on the conservation, management and sustainable use of their critical habitats.
