Welcome to SCF the
Sahara Conservation Fund

The Sahara is the biggest desert in the world; it is also a truly amazing kaleidoscope of
colours, textures, cultures and history. It is a place of life and diversity, where the survival
of plants and animals is finely balanced against the daily challenges of extreme heat and
drought.

In what many are calling a “silent extinction”, Saharan wildlife is rapidly disappearing with
barely a whisper from the international community. The scimitar-horned oryx, a large and
once abundant antelope, is now extinct in the wild. Close on its heels are the addax, several
species of gazelle, and the desert-living populations of both the ostrich and the cheetah.
SCF was established to conserve Saharan wildlife and to raise awareness of its uniqueness,
its values and the threats it faces. Click on the map below to visit SCF Projects.
