Jerboa (Jaculus jaculus). The jerboa or kangaroo rat moves along by jumping on its
hindfeet, hence the characteristic double pock-marks. Even when resting, it prefers to
remain aloft, using its tail for support like a tripod. Jerboas cover large distances each
night in search of seeds to eat and from which they are able to extract the moisture
needed for survival.

Sand Viper (Cerastes vipera). The sand viper is the common snake of the open desert,
feeding on the many small rodents. To catch its prey, the viper shuffles itself into soft
sand with barely its eyes or nose above ground, waiting until an unsuspecting mouse
or gerbil comes within range.
